No new wireless technology will be needed for 4G says PA Consulting Group: Paper at Path to 4G, London, (23 October 2002)

Dr William Webb from PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, will provide insight on the likely design of 4G wireless communication systems, in a paper to be given at IIR's conference The Path to 4G Mobile in London on 23 October 2002 (10.50am).
Dr Webb, a Managing Consultant within PA's Wireless Technology Practice, will explain the economic and technical drivers for 4G networks, drawing on 12 years' experience managing wireless projects and serving on a variety of industry bodies, and from his book "The Future of Wireless Communications" published last year.
In particular the paper will address: the theoretical limits of wireless technology and how 3G is nearing them; how user demand will grow over the next decade; how small cells are the only viable solution for providing the needed capacity; and why current W-LAN technologies provide more than enough capacity for future requirements. Building on this, he will discuss how to integrate different technologies and the resultant future architectures that will form the basis for 4G solutions.
William Webb is based at PA Consulting Group's International Technology Centre, Cambridge, UK.
