12 June 2002
Julian Lake from PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, will provide insight on interference issues surrounding UMTS networks in a paper to be given at IIR's GPRS & 3G Cell Planning Technical Forum in Vienna on 26 June 2002.
Julian, who heads the Radio Access Networks group in PA's Wireless Technology Practice, will explain the critical interference issues surrounding UMTS networks, which are fundamental to correct network operation and optimisation of capacity, drawing on 16 years' experience managing wireless projects for suppliers, operators, regulators and investors covering GSM, UMTS, digital TV, satellite and fixed wireless access networks.
In particular the paper will address interference mechanisms between networks of different UMTS operators and between UMTS and GSM, and highlight key design and deployment issues. It will consider what can be done to minimise the interference impact through site selection, UMTS-GSM co-location and frequency planning - of value to engineers and managers involved in UMTS radio system design and cell planning.
PA Consulting Group's wireless technology expertise includes network and system design and evaluation, radio network dimensioning and planning, cost modelling, technology comparisons, product benchmarking and due diligence, as well as service and product development for wireless operators and equipment suppliers.
