PA Consulting Group strengthens its wireless communications expertise with the appointment of William Webb - 22 October 2001

PA Consulting Group, the leading management, systems and technology consulting firm, today announced the appointment of Dr William Webb as as a senior consultant within its Wireless Technology practice.

Mr Webb will build on PA's existing telecommunications' expertise, which includes 3G mobile solutions, private radio systems, broadband fixed access, wireless local area networks and BlueTooth. He will strengthen PA's ability to help manufacturers, operators and investors in the wireless industry predict future technology evolution and services, to develop strategies, and to benefit from change.

Mr Webb comments:

"The world of wireless communications is evolving towards a model where a variety of networks - such as cellular systems and the home - start to interwork with significant implications for the networks themselves, for devices and for end users. At PA, where insight and skill ranges from high level corporate strategy through to detailed terminal design, I can team up with outstanding individuals to turn clients' vision into business advantage."

Phil White, head of PA's wireless technology practice comments:

"William has a strong background in consulting coupled with recent experience gained at a major manufacturer. His skills in understanding complex systems and in bridging the divide between technology and strategy will enhance our client solutions and help PA to grow its business."

Mr Webb, who was based in the USA until recently, is an acknowledged expert in wireless communications and is listed in "Who's Who in America". He joins PA from Motorola where he was a Director of Corporate Strategy (Chicago). Prior to that, he was employed by a number of consultancies in the UK, encompassing work that led to the UK spectrum auctions and to the railway GSM radio system. He is the author of seven books on wireless communications - including most recently "The Future of Wireless Communications" [Artech House 2001]. He also sits on a number of editorial panels, has published over 50 papers, holds four patents, is a Fellow of the IEE and is a senior member of the IEEE.
