PA Consulting Group – the international management, systems and technology consultancy – today announced the appointment of Dr Alan Carr as a member of PA’s management group within its wireless technology practice.
Alan Carr will build on PA’s existing telecommunications expertise and help expand its 3G mobile activities, in parallel with UbiNetics - the PA venture company established to bring second and third generation mobile communications products to market. He will also develop the practice’s second generation mobile and associated wireless systems services.
Alan comments: "3G will make possible an array of exciting new services from high speed Internet access through to multimedia communications, which will bring enormous opportunities to manufacturers and network operators alike. Through joining PA, I can team up with some of the best minds in the business to help clients complete the development and roll-out of these totally new systems in time to capture a pole position in the market."
In announcing the appointment, Phil White, head of PA’s wireless technology practice comments: "PA provides a wide range of services to help manufacturers, operators, investors and users to develop, launch and make the best use of wireless products and service. We focus on new technologies within this sector, offering consultancy and developing products and services for clients.
Having Alan Carr on our team is a key part of PA’s progress in expanding our 2G and 3G mobile business. He has a very strong consulting background, as well as extensive knowledge of 3G systems, particularly on the infrastructure side. I’m sure that he will play a major part in PA’s growth over the coming years."
Alan Carr joins PA from Telecom MODUS Limited, a joint venture company formed to develop third generation mobile communications infrastructure for UMTS. As technical director he was responsible for all technical work and played a key role in developing the company from 15 to 100 personnel. Before this, he was associate director for ERA Technology Limited (leading the technical team which went on to jointly form Telecom MODUS with the NEC Corporation). His earlier career involved consultancy for Scicon (now EDS), lecturing at Queen Mary College and research work for the Central Electricity Generating Board.
