PA Consulting creates a new marketing team dedicated to helping all companies win in the 'New Economy'

PA Consulting Group today launched a special consulting team dedicated to helping companies succeed in the ‘New Economy’. The team combines the latest thinking in marketing, e-business and innovation to help all companies adopt new strategies, approaches and propositions to win in today’s dynamic new marketplace.
PA has established the 40-man ‘Winning in the New Economy’ team in response to the chaotic nature of the business world, the ongoing impact of technology and the need for companies to focus on generating value through their future potential, as much as their current performance. It believes that above all else, winning in this new environment is a marketing challenge in which direction – with a more evolutionary approach to markets; ideas – with faster, more innovative marketing and relationships – ensuring customers stick, are the cornerstones of success.
"Companies frequently believe the overriding response to the New Economy must be related to the Web. Undoubtedly this is key, but it doesn’t address the much broader issues and challenges impacting the business from all sides. We believe the New Economy demands fundamentally different attitudes and approaches drawing upon all the skills, technologies and relationships at a company’s disposal," commented Peter Fisk, of PA’s new team.
PA’s ‘Winning in the New Economy’ team has already helped BT plc radically change its business approach through its Marketing Quest programme. This pushes out the boundaries of traditional marketing to create a breed of ‘new marketers’, working both inside and outside the marketing function. The entrepreneurial attitudes of these new marketers, and the dynamic collaboration between them, has significantly improved innovation and speed, and seeks to make the company as creative and agile as the newest dotcom start-up.
Recently, the team also helped another major telco establish one of the most ambitious online travel brands and portals in the Far East, just seven weeks after the initial business plan was agreed. At launch, it was 600 times oversubscribed and saw its share price surge from $1 to $7 on the first day of trading.
"In the New Economy, winners will be those who think smartest, and act fastest. This is fundamentally a marketing challenge, and we believe PA can uniquely help," added Fisk.
PA brings together more marketing skills than any competitor, from market strategy to marketing communications, from product development to key account development, from CRM to e-business, from people and process to technology. In last year’s Management Consultancy magazine survey, PA was named the UK’s top management consultancy for marketing.

Notes to editors
- An extract of PA’s paper ‘Winning in the New Economy’, which describes the challenges and opportunities of the New Economy, is attached. For more information on the specific concepts and services established by PA, please contact Peter Fisk.
- The New Economy - PA defines the new economy as the business environment in which all businesses, not just Internet-related businesses, now find themselves. It is the new economics of value creation - how investors perceive the performance and potential of organisations, and therefore the drivers of these - which their business activities must focus on. This demands new thinking and new approaches by every company, and particularly the more established physical companies which have to make the most change.
- PA Consulting Group - PA Consulting Group is a leading management, systems and technology consultancy, with a unique commitment to the integration of these capabilities. Established almost 60 years ago, and operating worldwide from over 30 offices in some 20 countries, PA draws on the knowledge and experience of about 2,700 employees, whose skills span the initial generation of ideas and insights all the way through to detailed implementation, including:
- Strategic management, and managing for shareholder value
- Accelerating business growth, especially through innovation and technology
- Improving business design and performance, including customer relationship management, enterprise-wide systems for the supply chain, and full e-business solutions
- Mobilising human resources
- Delivering change effectively, including projects and programmes.
PA focuses on creating benefits for clients rather than merely proposing them, and this focus is supported by an outstanding implementation track record in every major industry and for governments around the world. PA also develops leading-edge technology both for its clients and within its own portfolio of venture companies in areas ranging from software to wireless technology to life sciences.
PA distinguishes itself from its competitors through the range and quality of its people, its development and use of technology, and also its independence. PA’s work in every area from strategic management to project delivery is enhanced by its expertise in all the other areas. PA’s consultants, whatever their special skills, all share:
- A highly commercial approach to clients’ problems and opportunities
- A technologically sophisticated view of both the industry sectors we serve and the solutions we deliver
- A culture of respect, collaboration and flexibility in working with our clients to achieve their aims.
We are proud that our clients say "PA makes it happen".
